Two Fat Cats & Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month, we are pleased to partner with Two Fat Cats Bakery to bring you three author-inspired cookies that celebrate Black authors Maya Angelou, Zora Neale Hurston, and Alice Walker. We hope the artistry of the bakers at Two Fat Cats prompts you to read and celebrate Black stories and their critical voice in the American literary canon. Below you will find a list of authors highlighted by Two Fat Cats along with other titles the Print staff recommends.

You can purchase cookies and books in person at either Two Fat Cats locations, and you know we'll have the books at Print as well! We will also be highlighting Black authors and Black historical figures throughout the month during our ACLU storytimes and in-store displays for kids and adults.

More about Two Fat Cats Bakery:

Two Fat Cats is located on Lancaster St in Portland's Bayside and on Broadway in South Portland. It is also the founding organization behind the charitable giving program, Baking That Matters. With a donation for every mixed berry pie sold, Baking That Matters gives a quarterly gift to four local organizations that give voice to groups that are often underrepresented and underappreciated in the mainstream. For more information on the organizations Baking That Matters supports, visit their program websites: The Telling Room, Make Shift Coffee House, Immigrant Welcome Center, and Maine Inside Out
